1930 census - Henry Seiter

This is the 1930's census for Henry Seiter and his family. Click on picture to enlarge.

Henry was living with his second wife, Elizabeth and their 2 daughters, Elizabeth and Lucille in a house he owned in Bellerose ,Queens on 41st avenue. The value of the house was $6000.

Notably, in column 9, they are listed as owning a Radio Set!

Also listed is a son of Henry, named Peter E Seiter. I have never heard of a reference to a Peter Seiter before and can find no other information on him. He is listed as a clerk at a newspaper.

I knew Lucille and she told me that Henry and Elizabeth only had 2 children [Elizabeth & Lucille], so Peter is not actually Henry's son. Elizabeth's three children from a previous marriage included one son named Emile Myers [who is listed as Henry's son in the 1920 census], therefore it is unclear who Peter Seiter actually is.

Lucille and Elizabeth Seiter were the half siblings of my grandfther, James Seiter and his siblings, Anna, John, Henry [#2], Dorothy and Edward [whose mother, Catherine (Marr) Seiter died in 1914]

Henry Seiter death certificate

This is the death certificate for my great grandfather, Henry Seiter [2/8/1883 - 8/19/1959]. He lived in Bellrose, Queens at the time of his death and was survived by his second wife, Elizabeth. Click on picture to enlarge.

The birthdate on the death certificate appears to be wrong, as his grave stone and the 1900 census both say that he was born in 1883.

He was the father of Anna, John, Henry, James, Dorothy and Edward [with his first wife, Catherine (Marr) Seiter], as well as Elizabeth and Lucille, with his second wife.

He was a painter by trade and was a higher up in his union. I have a picture of him with his union buddies which I will post later.

His parents were Jacob Seiter and Katharina Hess [whose name is listed incorrectly on the death certificate]. He is buried in Flushing Cemetery in Queens [I will add the plot number later].

His siblings were Phoebe [Josephine] Seiter [married name Callahan] and Susan [Susie] Seiter [married name Weber]. I think he also had a younger brother named Rudolph, because an infant is buried with Henry's father, Jacob, in St. Michael's Cemetery in Queens.
