Henry Seiter's children - Anna Seiter

Anna Seiter was one of Henry Seiter and Catherine Marr Seiter's oldest children.

She and her twin brother, John, were born on January 1, 1903 in New York City.

Anna married Arthur F. Johnson in Queens, NY on June 23, 1920. Arthur was born about 1899.

Anna can be found in the 1910 census living with her father, Henry [posted previously]. In 1920 she was living with her Aunt Elizabeth Beresheim - see above census - click on image to enlarge. I cannot find Anna and Arthur in the 1930 census.

I will post pictures and additional information if anyone can provide them.

Henry Seiter's brother - Rudolph Seiter

I think that Henry had a younger brother named Rudolph who died as an infant, because there is an infant named Rudolph buried with Henry’s father, Jacob.

Rudolph was buried at St. Michael’s Cemetery on 12/8/1894 after dying at the age of 9 months and two days. There is no gravestone.

Henry Seiter's sister - Phoebe Seiter Callahan

Henry’s other sister, Phoebe, was born 8/24/1881 in New York City. See image #1 – click on image to enlarge.

Phoebe married John Wilson Callahan on 9/30/1903. [Image #2]. John Wilson Callahan was born on 10/1/1876 and was the son of Jeremiah Callahan and Isabella Stewart Wilson. John Callahan was a plumber.

Phoebe died on 7/18/1977 and is buried in Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, NY with her husband, sister Susie and her mother Katharine [Hess] Seiter [Section 31a, Lot 57 graves 3 & 4 – image #6]. Phoebe was living in Anaheim, CA when she died.

Phoebe and John had a son named Jeremiah Callahan [8/11/1908 – 3/30/1979], named for his grandfather [see image #7]. Jeremiah was living in Anaheim, CA when he died.
Iamge #3 is the 1910 census. Image #4 is the 1920 census. Image #5 is the 1930 census [This is nice because it shows that Susie and her sister - Phoebe Callahan - were very close to Katherine Seiter, their mother. They all bought houses next to each other.]

Henry Seiter's sister - Susie Seiter Weber

Okay – so I have posted on my great grandfather Henry Seiter [1883 – 1959] and great grandmother Catherine Marr Seiter [1883-1914] as well as Catherine Marr’s siblings. Now to Henry Seiter’s siblings, then to Henry’s kids and then to Henry’s ancestors.

Henry had a sister named Susie [birth, census and marriage records refer to her as Susan, Susie, or Sussiana] who was born on 9/14/1880 [see above image #1 - Click on the picture to enlarge].

Susie married Charles Weber on 5/3/1902 [see above image #2 - Click on the picture to enlarge]. Charles Weber was born in Washington DC about 1878 and was the son of Valentine Weber and Karoline Schmohl. Charles was a bricklayer.

Susie and Charles had two daughters [Charlotte in about 1903 and Phoebe in about 1906] and a son , Charles, in about 1912. Susie died in 1962 and is buried in Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, NY with her sister Phoebe, her brother in law John and her mother Katharine [Hess] Seiter [Section 31a, Lot 57 graves 3 & 4].
The only gravestone at the site lists only Phoebe and John, but burial records show that Susie Weber and Katherine Hess Seiter are also buried there.

Picture #3 is the 1910 census. Picture #4 is the 1920 census [Charles Weber is barely legible, and Susie , right below him isn’t legible at all]. Picture #5 is the 1930 census [This is nice because it shows that Susie and her sister - Phoebe Callahan - were very close to Katherine Seiter, their mother. They all bought houses next to each other.] Click on the pictures to enlarge

1900 John Marr Jr & the Plumps

John Marr Jr was the brother of Catherine Marr Seiter [wife of Henry Seiter and mother to Anna, John, James, Henry, Edward and Dorothy].

John Marr Jr can be found in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census [the 1900 census is posted here - click on the image to enlarge and then click on "all sizes" directly above the image to enlarge further]. He married Helena [Lena] Plump and all of the census records also show siblings of Helena, often living next door.

John and Helena Marr were the parents of George and Margaret/Margette Marr.

If you want to see the other censuses, email me and I will email them to you.

Catherine Marr extended family part 2

This is the rest of Catherine Marr's family near as I can tell. You'll notice that this is very different from the post entitled "Marr Branch of the Seiter Family Tree" - that is because I found additional siblings for Catherine Marr as well as a first wife for John Marr Sr.

Catherine Marr extended family part 1

As near as I can tell, this is Catherine Marr's extended family - couldn't fit it all in one picture and still be readable. You'll notice this is very different from the earlier post entitled "Marr Branch of the Seiter Family Tree" - that is because I discovered additional siblings for Catherine Marr and a first wife for John Marr Sr.

I know I haven't mentioned the Plumps yet - next time

More on the Marr's

The previous post refers to the Marr branch of the Seiter family tree, but I have discovered new information, I think – this part is a lot of guess work – you should probably read the older posts before the newer posts to understand it better. If you don't care HOW I figured this stuff out, feel free to skip to the last three paragraphs of this post that say WHAT I figured out.

Catherine Marr married Henry Seiter around 1903 – based on information from the 1910 census. Catherine Marr’s death certificate lists her date of birth as June 1883, and her parents are noted to be John Marr [born in Germany] and Catherine Rheinhard [born in NY]. According to Lucille Mull [daughter of Henry Seiter and my grandfather’s (James) half sister], Catherine was known to have a sister named Elizabeth who married Adam Beresheim – census records for Elizabeth and Adam show that Elizabeth was born around 1865. Lucille never mentioned any other siblings for Catherine Marr Seiter.

The above 1900 census shows a Catherine Marr, born June 1882, with a father named John and a sister named Annie. Catherine’s birth date was off a year, and who was Annie? Click on the image to enlarge.

I then went back to 1870 and found a John Marr and SUSAN Marr, who had a five year old named Elizabeth [which fits], but also children named Ferdinand and John – so now, I had a mother with a different name and siblings who didn’t match. Go to the above post entitled "John Marr 1870 census" (I don't know how to include more than one image in a post)

When I went to 1880 I found again, John and Susan Marr with children Elizabeth, Ferdinand, John and now Annie - this could be the same Annie from 1900, as the age matches. The information on John Sr. matched from census to census, so I think this is the same John, (I guess Lucille just didn't know about or remember the other siblings). Go to the above post entitled "John Marr 1880 census".

I think that Elizabeth, Ferdinand, John and Annie’s mother was named Susan, and sometime between 1880 and 1882 or 1883, Susan died and John Marr married Catherine Rheinhard and had a daughter, Catherine [Henry Seiter’s wife]. I will check this eventually by going into New York City and trying to find the marriage certificates for Elizabeth Marr Beresheim, John Marr Jr. and Catherine Marr Seiter.

I still was only guessing until I thought that maybe I could look at Catherine Marr’s other siblings [?] in the census. I couldn’t find anything more on Ferdinand or Annie, but I DID find John Marr Jr. in 1900, 1910 and 1920 [see separate post above entitled "John Marr Jr" for information on John Marr Jr's family].

I still couldn’t prove that this John Marr Jr. was a brother to Catherine Marr Seiter [which would mean that the census information back to 1880 for John Marr Sr. was really for MY Catherine Marr’s father], until I took another look at John Marr Jr. in the 1920 census. In 1920 [Catherine Marr Seiter died in 1914], John Marr was renting a room to Katharine Seiter – which would have been his deceased sister’s mother in law! Eureka! I had seen this census sheet before when looking up Katharine, but never noticed the Marrs. [See the above post entitled "John Marr Jr. and Katharine Seiter - 1920 census"]

So I think that Catherine Marr had half siblings Elizabeth, Ferdinand, John, and Annie whose mother’s name was Susan.

You can tell from the census that Catherine’s father John Marr was born in 1839 in Bavaria, Germany. He came to the USA in 1843 and was a tinsmith.

There are some minor inconsistencies [Catherine’s birth date on 1900 census; Susan Marr is listed as being born in Germany in the 1880 census, but in NY in 1870 and on John Marr Jr’s and Elizabeth Beresheim’s censuses], but I think that the fact that John Marr Jr. lived with Katharine Seiter makes this a pretty solid guess.

Marr Branch of the Seiter Family Tree

This is the family tree so far (click on the picture to enlarge). It consists of my great grandfather, Henry Seiter, and his first [Catherine Marr] and second [Elizabeth Myers] wives, and their children.

It also contains Catherine Marr’s parents and sister as well as their known descendents.

I have left out Elizabeth [Myers] Seiter's children from her first marriage in order to make the family tree readable. I have also left out the mysterious Peter Seiter, as I don't know who he is.

I will next post Henry Seiter's siblings and their descendents before going on to Henry's parents.

I have left off the generations below James Seiter [except for me] as most people have privacy concerns, but I will post them if I have their permission. There is a family reunion picnic in September 2008 at which I hope to get more information. Check back.

UPDATE - found a lot more information which changes everything about this post - see subsequent posts.

The Beresheims

My gandfather was James Seiter - his parents were Henry and Catherine [Marr] Seiter. Lucille [Seiter] Mull, James' half sister, told me that Catherine [Marr] Seiter had a sister, Elizabeth [Marr] Beresheim - so Elizabeth [Marr] Beresheim was James' aunt.

I am posting the information I found on the Beresheims in case one of them is doing an internet search and stumbles onto this website and hopefully contacts me.

Elizabeth Marr [b 1865] married Adam Beresheim [b 1862] in ~ 1891. They had Lena [b 1892], Charles [b 1894], Joseph [b 1899] and Mamie or Mary [b ~ 1901]. Lena, Charles, Joseph and Mamie [Mary] were the cousins of James Seiter and his sibs.

Elizabeth and Adam Beresheim can be found in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses. The 1900 census is posted - click on the image to enlarge and then click on "all sizes" directly above the image to enlarge further.

In the 1920 census, Elizabeth's neice and nephew, Anna and James Seiter were living with her.

In the 1930 census, Elizabeth and Adam lived with their son Charles and his family [wife Marion b ~1902 in Russia; Charles Jr b ~1922 and daughter Rita b ~1928; and Marions's siblings, Anthony Stolaski and Sophie Stolaski]

Elizabeth and Adam lived in "Queens, NY" in the 1900, 1910 and 1930 census. The 1920 census listed their address as College Point, Queens, NY.

I am going to try to find a marriage certificate for Elizabeth and Adam, to see if I can find more information on Elizabeth's parents.

If you want to see the other censuses, email me and I will email them to you.

Catherine Marr Death Certificate

This is the death certificate for my great grandmother, Catherine [Marr] Seiter. I don't have much information on her. Click on the picture to enlarge, then click on "all sizes" directly over the picture to enlarge further.

She was born 6/18/1883 in NY to John Marr [born in Germany] and Catherine Rheinhard [born in NY].

She died 2/1/1914 while pregnant with her 7th child, while living in Corona, NY with her husband, Henry Seiter.

She was the mother of John, Anna, Henry, James, Dorothy and Edward Seiter.

She had a sister, Elizabeth Marr [Beresheim].

She is buried at St. Michael's Cemetery in East Elmhurst, NY. Her grave is located at : No. 51, Range 72, Plot 6 and does not have a gravestone.

The earlier post "Henry Seiter and Catherine Seiter - 1910 census" has more information on Catherine [Marr] Seiter.

I was unable to find anything else out on John Marr or Catherine Rheinhard, but I plan to go into the New York Hall of Records to try and find a marriage certificate for Catherine Marr and Henry Seiter who were married ~ 1903 - that may have more information on Catherine's parents.
